Student Room Hacks: Make Your Room Look Bigger!

Whether you have a big or small room, sometimes it may feel like there’s almost no room. There might seem to be no floor space or room left in your cupboards, and you find yourself tripping over things that don’t seem to have a home.

Whilst there are many student room hacks to make your room appear bigger, let’s just look at three.

Mirror Mirror

The best student room hack is to use mirrors to give the illusion of more space. Having a combination of mirrors and light sources is one of the best ways to add more dimension to your room. It is not only aesthetically pleasing to have a mirror near a light source but also brightens your room and gives it a more homely feeling. If floor-to-ceiling mirrors are an option, these give the illusion that your room is bigger, especially if placed on wardrobe doors.(Not to mention incredibly useful!)

Add Height

This might not be the first thing that comes to mind when making your room seem bigger. Vertical lines in your room make it appear as if the walls are higher than they actually are, which draws the eye upward. Using curtains that start from the ceiling and are either just above the floor or slightly pooled on the floor will make a big difference. Another one of these student room hacks would be to get tall yet slim shelving. Having shelves lifts your roof as well as gives your extra storage space.

Stay Organised

Having clothes on the floor, cups and plates on your desk, and just general clutter around your room makes your room look much smaller. Making sure that everything has a place and is in that place 90% of the time will make your room less cluttered and therefore, appear bigger. (Keeping your room organised is not only one of the more useful student room hacks, but it helps in many aspects of a student’s life.)

Keep your room clean and carefully utilise the space that you have to make your room seem brighter and larger. After all, who wants to come home to a dingy, poky space after a long day of lectures? So whether you’re going to buy a new shelf or just tidy your room up a bit, you can start today and make your room bigger.
