Cleaning Hack Cheat Sheet for Student Rooms

If you’re a university student, chances are that you don’t have a lot of time to make sure that your room is always spotless. And when you do have the time, there just seems to be so much to clean and organise that you’re already tired before you’ve even started.

So how can you keep your student room clean and tidy without overwhelming yourself? There must be an easier way than the crazy late-night blitzes you’ve been trying to cope with!

Let’s look at a few cleaning hacks to see what will work for you.

Have a Schedule

Creating a schedule that you know you can stick to is the best cleaning hack to keep your room clean without spending hours of your free time on one big cleaning session.

Have certain tasks you do every day (such as taking any cups and plates out of your room), tasks you do weekly (such as sweeping the room or washing your bed sheets) and tasks that you do every month (such as cleaning your windows or decluttering your cupboards). This ensures that you are always up to date with the cleaning that you need to do and things don’t get overwhelming.

Declutter and Organise

Every month or so, go through all of the items in your room and see what you need or want and what’s just taking up valuable space. This is a surprisingly important cleaning hack to ensure that you aren’t hoarding bits and bobs that you’ll never actually use. Once you’ve gotten rid of the extra junk and rubbish, you can organise everything else that you plan to use in the near future.

Deep Clean

Once every month or so, spend a few hours giving your room a deep clean. This could include moving your bed to vacuum those hard-to-reach spaces and taking everything off of your shelves to give them a wipe down. You could use this time to dust the weird places that no one actually sees and wash your curtains or wipe down your blinds.

You might not enjoy cleaning, but with these cleaning hacks, cleaning will become less of a chore. No more wading through the clothes on the floor or doing a last-minute very quick – and honestly, not very effective – clean-up before you have company over.

Establishing great habits like these will definitely stand you in good stead when you move out of your student room and enter the big wide world!
