It’s so easy to just press the snooze button on your alarm in the morning to get those few extra minutes of sleep in. And then maybe you press the snooze button again. And again. And now you have to rush around because you’re late.
Not many people love to jump out of bed at the crack of dawn, but waking up early has its benefits. Let’s explore some.
More Time to Eat Breakfast
“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” Whilst this is true, not many people pay enough attention to this – especially late risers.
A study has shown that people who sleep late consume 248 more calories a day, and if you think about it, it makes sense. If you wake up late, you don’t have time to make yourself a healthy and filling breakfast so you might probably grab a quick (unhealthy) snack when you leave the house. Waking up early gives you more time to make yourself a decent breakfast and start your day right.
Morning Work Out
Working out is important for both your physical and mental health, but it’s hard to motivate yourself to go to the gym or work out at home after a long day. But maybe you don’t have to leave it until the afternoon. Waking up early allows you enough time to get in a proper workout whilst you’re still energized from waking up and helps you stay motivated throughout the day.
Productive and Organised
First thing in the morning is the best time to plan your day – you can write down all the tasks you need to complete to avoid forgetting them. If you’ve got a lot to do then maybe you can complete them in the morning instead of later in the day. This gives you the edge on a late riser as you’re already well into the swing of a productive day before their feet have hit the floor.
Quiet Time
If you share a living space with others, whether it’s a roommate or family, you tend to have very little quiet time. Even if the other person isn’t speaking to you, their presence can be a disturbance. Waking up early allows you to have the house to yourself, even if it’s only for an hour, and you can just relax and have a quiet start to your morning minus the chatter of others.
Reduced Stress
We are all under some form of stress. In that case, waking up early would just make sense. You have more time to get any assignments or chores done before you would usually be awake. This might not make your stress disappear, but it can give you more time to deal with what’s causing your anxiety.
It will take some time to get used to waking up early but once you have mastered it and see the benefits you will reap, getting yourself out of bed in the morning will be so much easier.
You’ll have more time to do the things you want without having those stressful deadlines hovering over you. So maybe it’s time to set your alarm clock just that little bit earlier and see what happens.
